The has been much talk that Vladamir Putin is living in an "alternate reality", that he does not see the situation on the ground in the Ukraine as it really is and that he dreams of reassembling the former USSR. It is no secret that he believes the dissolution of the former USSR as "the greatest lamentable event of the 20th century". Be that as it may, he did not start the nonsense in the Ukraine. Some believe that the westward looking younger generation began the protests against the duly elected government of the Ukraine which quickly escalated into the mayhem we saw in Kiev. The younger generation, favoring the EU feel `left out` by the Age of Excess they see in the west and they want their bite of the pie! Perhaps. But other sources state that the US and the EU were behind the violence and carnage that left the country in such upheaval. This is entirely more believable.

All the chest pounding of the senators, congressmen and pundits of every description in the west, declaring America to be the superpower it once was and the champion of freedom for all the world`s supposedly oppressed peoples smacks of real delusion. The US has lost the right ``to bestride the world like a Colossus``. The citizens of the US are less free than ever before given Snowden`s revelations regarding the NSA and it`s unconstitutional activities. Any society that sacrifices freedom for security ends up with neither and greater minds than mine have expressed this is many ways. The US is broke, unable to care adequately for it`s vets and cutting the size of it`s armed forces right to the bone because they cannot afford them. They are devaluing their currency to the point where soon no one will buy their bonds, a traditional investment in times of crisis.

In international affairs, the US is fast emerging as the most hated country on earth. Beginning with the economic meltdown in 2008 that threatened the economies of the entire world, their meddling in the affairs of other countries is making the US an undesirable player on the world stage. Is Iraq or Afghanistan or Egypt or Libya better off for the US`s military/social meddling? Is any country in the world better off because of their association with the US? Hardly! Perhaps having a president that is awkward and indecisive on the world stage is a good thing. After all, a country that cannot govern itself has little to offer in any meaningful sense to the rest of the world.
